UFC President Dana White says that a warrant has been issued for Conor McGregor's arrest after the 29-year old fighter invaded the UFC 223 Media Day at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. McGregor wreaked havoc in the loading dock area, hurling guard rails, trash cans and dollies at a bus full of UFC fighters, reportedly injuring some in the process.
Speaking with reporters moments ago, White described the ambush as "the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of this company."
"They stormed the building, got down to the loading docks where the fighters were getting on buses and started to attack the buses with trash cans, dollies," White said, according to ESPN. "... This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of this company."
According to ESPN, McGregor and his entourage were let into the Barclays Center by a credentialed website. Once inside, McGregor was reportedly in search of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will be fighting Max Holloway on Saturday night for the lightweight title that McGregor was recently stripped of.
According to reports, McGregor ended up injuring fighter Michael Chiesa during his wild attack on one of the buses. Chiesa's coach, Rick Little, tells MMA Junkie, “Conor went bananas and put a beating on the van that we were in looking for Khabib,” Little said. “A million security guards had to restrain him. Mike’s cut up now. He’s got marks on him, for sure. I don’t think too serious. Everything happened so fast, it was just like we got jumped.”
Additionally, White tells ESPN that Artem Lobov has been pulled from the UFC 223 card, because he was part of the group that stormed the Barclay's Center with McGregor. Lobov, one of McGregor's teammates, was reportedly involved in a scuffle with Nurmagomedov at a hotel on Tuesday night, which may have fuelled today's attack.
Some are speculating that this was a staged stunt to drum up excitement for McGregor's next fight, but that's clearly not the case.
