Just hours after the Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East division crown, the team officially announced that MVP-candidate Carson Wentz tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Wentz threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns in yesterday's win over the Los Angeles Rams, before being forced out of the game late in the third quarter.
The Eagles and their fan base had feared that it was an ACL tear and today their biggest nightmare was confirmed.
Wentz, 24, has put together an MVP caliber season in just his second year in the league. In 13 games this season he threw for 3,296 yards and an NFL-best 33 touchdowns. In fact, he threw his 33rd touchdown pass, which gave Philly a 31-28 lead, after suffering a torn ACL.
The Eagles, 11-2, will wrap up the regular season with a road game against the New York Giants in Week 15 before returning to Philadelphia for games against the Raiders and Cowboys in Weeks 16 & 17, respectively. The team will now turn to veteran quarterback Nick Foles in the wake of Wentz's season-ending injury.
