Hollywood loves remaking movies and releasing sequels. Some of the biggest films of the last decade were remakes or reboots (IT, Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Ben-Hur, Spider-Man: Homecoming) while sequels are also killing it at the box office (Avengers: Infinity War, John Wick: Chapter 2, The Fate of the Furious). In an entertainment world filled with familiar faces and retold stories, one character is finally getting his big screen debut: Sonic the Hedgehog.
If you didn't play Sonic the Hedgehog as a child, what were you doing? The blue speedster was Sega's most popular character, in essence, he was like their Mario. Sonic has his own adventure games, but much like Mario he also has several spin-off titles such as Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. According to Variety, Westworld star James Marsden has been tapped to star in a new Sonic film. Paramount will bring the live-action film to life on screen next year, with Jeff Fowler set to direct. Fowler is a talented animator, but this will be his directorial debut. Deadpool director Tim Miller is the executive producer for the untitled Sonic film. Plot details have yet to be revealed, but it is expected that Sonic will be battling his arch nemesis Doctor Robotnik.
