Ben Schwartz is stepping into the role of one of the most beloved video game characters of all time. According to VarietySchwartz has signed on to voice Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming film of the same name. He will face off against Dr. Robotnik, who will be played by Jim Carrey. The film is being labeled a live-action family film, but CGI elements will most likely be used to create Sonic and his friends. Former X-Men star and current Westworld actor James Marsden has also signed on to the cast, which will include Tika Sumpter as well. Deadpool director Tim Miller is the executive producer for the film, while Jeff Fowler will direct.

It is unclear how things will come together for the film, but the plot has been loosely explained as, "a juvenile delinquent on the adventures in a pretty straight rural environment with a local policeman."  If I had to guess, Marsden will be trading in his cowboy hat to become the policeman. Carrey has decades of experience when it comes to playing absurd and foolish characters, so he'll fit right in as Dr. Robotnik. Schwartz is no stranger to voice acting, as he currently voices Dewey Duck on Disney Channel’s Duck Tales reboot, and will also voice Leonardo in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
