Over the course of the year, Remy Ma has been slowly making her way back to the forefront of hip hop. Not to say she's ever left but she's delivered an influx of new music throughout the year while she gears up to release her sophomore album. Last week, it was reported that she and Lil Kim teamed up for a new track dissing Nicki Minaj. Now, they've finally unleashed their single "Wake Me Up" and they're are a few bars that might live up the the rumors.
Remy Ma kicks off the campaign for Seven Winters, Six Summers with her latest single, "Wake Me Up," featuring Lil Kim. Remy comes through ferociously over the production of Cool And Dre, Smitty Beatz & 808 Ray. Remy kicks the track off the track before Lil Kim comes through on the hook. Remy interpolates Kim's "Queen Bitch" on the introductory bars of the first verse.
The excitement surrounding the song had a lot to do with whether Remy would take another jab at Nicki. While she doesn't mention Nicki's name, there are a few bars throughout that can be interpreted as shots.
"Spray the fif, that crown? I'mma take that shit/ Cause you a clown and homie don't play that shit," has been interpreted as a Remy seeking to dethrone Nicki.
She also takes shot at Nicki's relationship with Nas with the line, "I heard he lay that dick, you let him filet that fish/ You just met mim, how he bae that quick?" Again, no names mentioned but by the tension that grew between the two throughout the year, it's easy to assume that it may have been a shot at Nicki.
With the release of "Wake Me Up," it looks like we'll finally be receiving a new album from Remy Ma in the near future.
