People were shocked when they heard that Rich The Kid and Kendrick Lamar had a track together. I mean, it's not the most common of collaborations. Nonetheless, the two of them delivered one of the most highlighted hip hop songs of this fall. Almost immediately after the song started popping off, Rich The Kid announced on Instagram that he and Kung Fu Kenny were shooting a video for a song. After weeks of waiting, the video finally has a release date for next Monday.
The video is co-directed by Dave Free, who was also responsible for the "Backseat Freestyle" video as well as ScHoolboy Q's "Man of the Year" video. He shared the trailer and announced that he co-directed by Jack Begert, who's previously worked with ScHoolboy Q for a few videos off of Blank Face LP as well as Jay Rock. So it's safe to say, with two creative minds behind the camera and two charismatic figures in front of it, we're definitely in for a little treat with the upcoming video.
"New Freezer" is opening up the gates for Rich The Kid to drop his upcoming album. The rapper recently explained how the single came about when premiering the single on Zane Lowe. Rich The Kid said he was working at the Interscope studios when Kendrick randomly popped by his session.
"Kendrick Lamar came in... He asked me to play some music for him..I played two records. I had just recorded "New Freezer" recently... Right when he heard it, he's like 'yo, who else on this song?!'... 'Yo I gotta get on this one, this shit dumb!" he said.
He also said he has some other big names on his upcoming project like Lil Wayne and Tory Lanez. So he's definitely gearing up to make a bigger wave with the project.
