Lamar Odom might be the next former NBA player to sign up for Season 2 of Ice Cube's Big3 League.
According to TMZ Sports, Odom has entertained the idea of joining the Big3 since August when he met with league execs, but now he is driven to play in honor of Rasual Butler, who was killed in a single car accident in late January along with his wife, Leah LaBelle.
Odom was one of several NBA stars who attended Butler's funeral and he tells TMZ he'd like to play in the Big3 as a way of honoring the man who he considered one of his best NBA friends. In the Big3's inaugural season, Butler started out on the Ball Hogs roster but finished the season with team Power following a mid-season trade.
Odom, 38, has not played in the NBA since the 2012-13 season when he was a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. The two-time NBA champion, and Sixth Man of the Year Award winner in 2010-11, averaged 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game during the course of his career.
The Big3 League has already announced a number of former NBA stars, including some of Odom's friends and former teammates, for the upcoming season. Metta World Peace, Baron Davis, Nate Robinson, Amar'e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer and Drew Gooden are all on board for Season 2, while guys like Greg Oden, Stromile Swift, Smush Parker, Keith Bogans and others will be participating in the draft combine later this year for one of the 19 available roster spots.
