Odell Beckham Jr.'s Nike Special Field Air Force 1 collab, inspired by the sea of yellow cabs in New York City, will be hitting retailers on Black Friday, November 24th. Yesterday, the New York Giants' star wide receiver teased the release of his first Nike collab, and today we have official images of what's to come.
Not only do the kicks pay tribute to the first thing Beckham noticed upon arriving in NYC, but there are also subtle details that pay homage to his Baton Rouge, Louisiana roots. For instance, the strap on the SF AF1 includes the longitude and latitude of Baton Rouge as well as Metlife Stadium, his social media bio and his position and jersey number.
Per Nike,
"When Beckham Jr. left his home state of Louisiana for New York in 2014, one of the first things that struck him was the omnipresence of the yellow cab. Fittingly, his debut signature lifestyle shoe, the Special Field Air Force-1 Mid “OBJ,” assumes that familiar color — like the cars, immediately standing out in a crowd."
"A woven label on the tongue of each SF AF-1 Mid carries an “OBJ” word mark. And further OBJ embellishment appears on the shoe’s straps. One shares the longitude and latitude of his birth city, Baton Rouge, while the other details those markers for his home field, Metlife Stadium. Nods to his social media bio, position and jersey number are also clear."
The Special Field Air Force-1 Mid “OBJ” releases November 24 exclusively through SNKRS, Nike stores, Sneakeasy and Foot Locker flagships.
Beckham Jr. re-upped his contract with The Swoosh back in May on a deal that is reportedly worth more than $29 million over the next five years. Furthermore, if certain achievements are reached, the value of the deal could reach as much as $48 million over 8 years.
Nike has been celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the iconic Nike Air Force 1 all year, most recently with collaborative efforts by Travis Scott, Don C, Kareem “Biggs” Burke, Errolson Hugh (Acronym), and Virgil Abloh.
