Miguel's fourth studio album will be titled War & Leisure. The title was announced in Steven Colbert's intro to the singer's performance on The Tonight Show Wednesday night, and has since been confirmed by Pitchfork. The LP follows Miguel's 2015 project WILDHEART, and is preceded by singles "Sky Walker" and "Shockandawe."
"Skywalker" is a collaboration with Travis Scott and was featured in Season 2 of HBO's Insecure. It's a decidedly carefree, rap-influenced track from the singer that could indicate the direction of the album. Meanwhile, "Shockandawe" is a funk-rap odyssey that sounds like it came straight out of N*E*R*D's In Search Of... sessions.
Back in July, Miguel guested on Snoop Dogg's GGN, where he spoke of his next album. “Right now, [I’m] just wrapping up a project," he said. "I feel like I’ve been creating three projects simultaneously. So the one that’s the most complete is what I’m kind of wrapping up now." He then played what he called his "new single," which had Snoop dancing in his seat, but curiously has not been released yet. Listen to the song at the 12-minute mark of the video below.
Miguel also spoke of the things that inspire him in his conversation with Snoop. "I'm a dreamer," he said. "I believe in the greater good. I believe in our evolution... I'm inspired by the dream. The dream of things being better. I'm inspired by love. I'm inspired by people who do great things and make me imagine."
On the Tonight Show, Miguel performed both "Sky Walker" and "Come Through And Chill," a song he released on SoundCloud in 2016. According to the Colbert YouTube channel, "Come Through And Chill" is also slated for the new LP. Watch the performance here.
In 2016, Miguel released the Rogue Waves EP; a collection of remixes to the WILDHEART single "Waves." it featured comtributions from Tame Impala, Travis Scott, RAC and Kacey Musgraves. Listen to the project here.
