If you haven't discovered the magic that is Royce Da 5'9" and DJ Premier's PRhyme LP (shout out to Adrian Younge), I simply don't know what to tell you, other than stop lacking. It's been out there. When you're dealing with categories like best lyricism and flow, it's hard to put another rapper over Royce Da 5'9". The man has been quietly killing the game for well over a decade, and in 2014, he joined forces with the legendary DJ Premier to deliver a collaborative album called PRhyme. Fans already know that the sequel has been in the works, and back in 2015, Royce extended invitations to Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and The Game to hop onto a track.
While it's not clear whether or not they took up Royce's offer, the rapper was confirmed to be working with J Cole on an undisclosed project, and many speculated that it was PRhyme 2. Suffice it to say, work has been in process for the last few years, and now, it has come to an end. Premier recently sat down with Hip-Hop DX and confirmed that the much anticipated sequel was officially complete. When speaking about his upcoming release schedule, he confirmed that PRhyme was next up. "PRhyme 2 is actually next, but me and Royce share PRhyme Records," says Premier. “We just finished it this morning (November 2nd)." While he doesn't have a release date in mind, the producer hinted that it was looking like an early 2018 drop.
In addition, Royce tweeted out this cryptic message, stating "Each beat on the PRhyme album makes a guest appearance." It's unclear whether or not he means each beat will feature an additional artist, or that each beat is simply that hard. Either way, it's been a while since Royce has blessed us with a studio album, and we're still waiting on that Book Of Ryan joint. Bar Exam 4 was a nice holdover, but Royce and Primo are one of those classic combinations that bring out the best in each other.
