Colorado Rockies Fall To Arizona Diamondbacks In NL Wild-Card Game

The Colorado Rockies came up short against the Arizona Diamondbacks last night in an intense National League Wild-Card matchup, which now sets up the Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

The D-Backs took advantage early with a three-run homerun off the bat of MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt in the first inning, and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third. The Rockies responded in the fourth inning though, putting up four runs against Zach Greinke and setting up a crazy Wild-Card finish. 

One of the most memorable moments from last night's game came from Diamondbacks relief pitcher, Archie Bradley, who belted a two-run triple with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Arizona an 8-5 lead. Heading into last night's game, Bradley had a batting average of .098 and had never hit a triple in his career. 

Arizona's Jake Lamb told reporters after the game, per ESPN,

"It was one of those moments, [and] I hate to say this in front of him," said Arizona's Jake Lamb, who had four hits on the night and often carpools with Bradley to the ballpark. "But the pitcher is up, two outs. You're not expecting a whole lot, and he puts this Hall-of-Fame type swing on a pitch. The whole place went nuts."

Still, Colorado fought. The Rockies hit back to back homeruns in the top of the eighth off of Bradley to bring the score to 8-7, but the Diamondbacks persisted. Arizona tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win 11-8. 

The D-Backs will now travel to Los Angeles to battle the Dodgers in the NLDS. LA had the best records in the majors this year, 104-58. That series will get underway tomorrow night.
