When it was initially released in 1987, the Nike Air Max 1, also known as the Air Max '87, revolutionized the footwear business. Nike designer Tinker Hatfield created the visible Air cushioning technology, which later became a distinguishing characteristic of the Air Max series. The Air Max 1 was the first shoe to utilize this technology. Also, when Hatfield visited Paris, he drew inspiration from the unique architecture of the Pompidou Centre. The building's exposed structure gave him the idea to create a shoe with a visible Air unit, challenging the convention of hidden cushioning.
When the Air Max 1 first came out, both athletes and sneakerheads showed interest in it. It became an instant hit thanks to its ground-breaking design, which combined performance and style. The visible Air unit made a visual statement that reflected Nike's ingenuity and technology breakthroughs in addition to offering improved cushioning and support. Furthermore, it’s still an incredibly popular sneaker, as shown with the Nike Air Max 1 “Clean Jade” here!
