Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles" has seen a considerable boost in popularity over the last week, and it could be enough to top the charts. The brothers' Gucci Mane-assisted single has become the soundtrack for the "Mannequin Challenge," the latest internet craze that finds participants creating a motionless scene set to the song.
The meme has even made its way to the hands of (white) Beatle Paul McCartney, who captioned his (admittedly pretty weak) Mannequin Challenge with "love those Black Beatles." The co-sign is immense as they come, and coincides with Billboard reporting that the single has a chance of knocking out the Chainsmokers' "Closer" at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
According to the publication, "Black Beatles," which jumped to number 9 last week, will likely outsell and outstream "Closer" for the week ending November 9th, but "Closer" still has a considerable lead in radio plays. It may be a close race, but on November 14th, we should have an official report from Billboard on who came out on top.
It's safe to say that the world is ready for The Chainsmokers to leave their perch atop the charts, and we can't think of a better act to tale their place then Rae Sremmurd. Read our cover story with the "Black Beatles" rappers here.
Also make sure to vote in our poll of rappers who have done the Mannequin Challenge so far.
