Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles" took a while to get off the ground, but it's been gradually climbing the Billboard Hot 100, and last week got its biggest boost yet when it became the official soundtrack to the #MannequinChallenge. If you somehow haven't seen it yet, the Mannequin Challenge is a trend where people pose in a freeze-frame like scenario, while one person takes a camera through the statuesque ensemble of friends. A song generally soundtracks the cinematic experience, and the song largely used in the videos is "Black Beatles."
It's hard to say how much the meme has played in the song's ascent this week, but it's jumped 7 spots to number 9 on the Hot 100, making it Rae Sremmurd's highest charting song (surpassing "No Type" which peaked at 16) as well as featured rapper Gucci Mane's (surpassing Mario's "Break Up," which peaked at 14).
With the both the meme and the song becoming more inescapable than ever, it's probable that this won't be the end of the "Black Beatles" climb. Watch Rae Sremmurd do their own version of the #MannequinChallenge on stage last week below.
