Vic Mensa has shared a harrowing music video to "16 Shots," a song that appeared on his June EP, There's Alot Going On. "16 Shots" is a protest song in response to the Chicago police killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. The title refers to the number of times McDonald was shot. Mensa presented the new video during the Justice for Laquan Rally! in Chicago's Millennium Park tonight, and he has now made it available for streaming, exclusively via TIDAL.
The video finds Mensa retracing the steps that led Laquan McDonald to his death. He, too, due to his skin color, feels the wrath of police immediately as he stumbles into their field of vision. The video ends by alternating dash-cam footage of McDonald's killing with a one-man slow-motion reenactment. Even though his fate is known, it's a stunning ending. Watch the full video on TIDAL.
