Overall album sales are up this week by 20% according to Nielsen, and we may have Valentine's Day purchases to blame for this one. Perhaps lovers were picking up Drake's Nothing Was The Same, and some r'n'b albums for V-Day? Along with Drake seeing a rise in sales, so did Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Beyonce and John Legend-- those are all very Valentine's Day-worthy releases. Both Macklemore and Kendrick Lamar, who saw spurts in their sales following the Grammys, have descended on the charts again, although they're keeping healthy positions within the top 50 on the Billboard 200. We haven't seen a new entry on the charts for a minute, apart from Isaiah Rashad's Cilvia Demo which didn't last too long, but we will see ScHoolboy Q on here soon enough, with Oxymoron (officially) dropping in two days. We're definitely curious as to what his first week numbers will be, and if he'll be able to beat Kendrick Lamar. For now, check out the status of our current charters below.
1) Beyonce—Beyonce: Last week we saw Queen Bey fall down to #7, however, this week she’s back up at #4. After charting for 10 weeks, the singer has sold 48,405 copies of her album, with total sales slowly approaching 2 million, 1,755,208.
2) Eminem— Marshall Mathers LP 2: Eminem’s MMLP2 is going strong on the charts for 15 weeks now. After seeing a slight drop to #13 last week, Em is up one spot this week to #12. The rapper’s album moved another 25,423 units this week, making for total sales of 1,939,090.
3) Drake— Nothing Was The Same: Although we saw a lot of drops last week, it appears this week most of our charters are up again. Drizzy rose from #24 to #16 with Nothing Was The Same selling a solid 20,140. Drake’s total sales have reached 1,464,825.
4) John Legend— Love In The Future: We’ve seen John Legend’s album Love In The Future slowly creep its way back up the Billboard 200, and today’s it’s made the biggest leap yet from #29 to #17, finding himself right below Drizzy. Legend saw a 77% increase in his album sales, moving around 20k.
5) Justin Timberlake—The 20/20 Experience 2: JT also benefited from an 80% increase in sales this past week, with his album rising up from #35 to #22, moving over 18,000 units.
6) R. Kelly— Black Panties: Another r’n’b singer for Charts that climbed up the charts in the last seven days. Kellz’ Black Panties saw a small rise from #25 to #23, having sold 17,721 units, making for a 53% increase.
7) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—The Heist: These two finally fell off a bit, but we know it’s never for too long. This week The Heist drops ten spots from #21 to #31, and the duo sold 12,000 copies. Their total sales have reached 1,341,000 units.
8) Jhene Aiko—Sail Out EP: Jhene has seen a fair amount of success with her Sail Out EP, and this week she’s fallen just one spot to #41 after charting for 13 weeks. The singer moved slightly under 10k with 9,344 copies sold.
9) Kendrick Lamar— good kid, m.A.A.d city: GKMC has seen a push in sales since the whole Grammys debate, although this week he’s down a few spots to #43. He’s been on the Billboard 200 for a strong 69 weeks now, and his Black Hippy affiliate ScHoolboy Q will soon be joining him on here with Oxymoron dropping next week. K Dot moved 9,000 units and his total sales are 1,183,000.
10) Kid Ink— My Own Lane: Kid Ink’s album fell down a few spots this week, dropping to #58 after spending 6 weeks on the Billboard 200. The West Coast native managed to sell another 6,600 units with his total sales reaching 92,000.
11) Childish Gambino— Because The Internet: Donald Glover album’s experienced a steep drop this week, with Because The Internet falling from #51 to #76. After 10 weeks, Childish sold 5,300 units. The total sales are 218,000.
In related news, Yo Gotti’s I Am sold another 5,200 units with his total sales reaching 147,000, while he fell to #80 on the charts. Eminem’s The Eminem Show continues to chart as well, rising up this week to #102 with 4,300 copies sold in the past week (10,328,000 total). Jay Z finds himself at #114 with Magna Carta Holy Grail pushing out 3,900 copies (total sales are 1,127,000).
