This week three new rappers entered the Billboard 200, with Future's Honest topping them all sales-wise (we'll let you be the judge on the music). Asher Roth, who has calmed way down from his College Rap days, moved under 10,000 units with his new album RetroHash, released independently. Future and Iggy Azalea also came in neck-and-neck with their respective albums Honest and The New Classic. However Future managed to top Iggy by 1,000 units, which is contrary to the projections we mentioned last week in Charts Don't Lie. Did Iggy's album live up to its name? It'll be interesting to see how these two do in the long run, as you are probably well aware if you check in each week, Rick Ross topped Pharrell in their same-day debut, however, Skateboard P is holding on much better than Ricky Rozay. Check below for this week's numbers and chart statistics.
1) Future— Honest: Future managed to move 1,000 more units than Iggy Azalea, thus sliding by her for the #2 debut on the Billboard 200. There’s no budging the Frozen soundtrack from #1, so it seems. Future’s second studio LP sold more than his debut, with 53,352 flying off the shelves.
2) Iggy Azalea— The New Classic: Iggy Azalea was projected to move more than Future, but the final result didn’t live up to those expectations. The Australian rapper’s debut album nabbed a #3 debut, which is still nothing to laugh at, with 52,392 copies sold opening week.
3) Pharrell— G I R L: Pharrell’s album just hit stores in Japan, and along with that we received an extra bonus track “Smile” earlier in the week. Regardless, it continues to do numbers in the U.S., climbing back up to #4 from the #7 spot last week. After 8 weeks of charting, the singer sold 21,107 units. His total sales are 325,483.
4) August Alsina— Testimony: August Alsina’s seeing quite a bit of success with his debut r’n’b album Testimony. The album debuted last week at #2, and drops just three spots this week to #5. The New Orleans native sold another 20,000 copies, bringing his total sales up to 87,000.
5) Eminem— The Marshall Mathers LP 2: Eminem’s MMLP2 isn’t going anywhere, dropping a few spots from last week, the album sits at #19 this week. After spending a strong 25 weeks on the Billboard 200, the rapper pushed 11,000 units this week. His total sales are an astounding 2,080,640 copies.
6) YG— My Krazy Life: The Krazy Life of YG continues to intrigue people, as he moves up a few spots this week climbing to #25. After spending 6 weeks on here, he’s sold 9,500 copies this week, with total sales of 133,000.
7) Beyonce— Beyonce: The self-titled album of Bey also rose up the ranks this week, finding herself right under YG at #26. The songstress sold 9,000 units this week, while her total sales reached 1,949,000.
8) Rick Ross— Mastermind: Everybody’s climbing up this week. Mastermind was no exception, although it only moved up by one spot, at #30. The album sold 8,300 units, while total sales are currently 320,000.
9) Asher Roth— RetroHash: Asher Roth entered the Billboard 200 this week, although he didn’t do mainstream numbers like Future or Iggy, it was solid enough to land him a #45 debut. The rapper moved 6,100 copies of his new LP.
10) ScHoolboy Q— Oxymoron: ScHoolboy was another rapper who climbed upwards this week, with Oxymoron rising 4 spots from #50 to #46. The Black Hippy counterpart moved out 5,800 copies of his album, with total sales reaching 236,000.
In other chart news, Drake’s Nothing Was The Same rose up quite bit, having dropped to #65 last week, this week he comes in at #47, moving around 5k. We’re also seeing Nas’ Illmatic on the Billboard 200, having re-entered following its 20th anniversary. Although last week it was at #18, this week its dropped to #53. Childish Gambino’s album Because The Internet dropped 11 spots this week, down to #66.
