The Oakland Raiders have a total of three draft picks in the first round of tonight's NFL Draft, including the #4 overall pick, and there are a number of needs to fill.
Although Oakland has stood behind quarterback Derek Carr, general manager Mike Mayock mentioned at his pre-draft press conference that like "any other position," the Raiders would do its homework on the draft's QBs. Specifically, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Raiders have been "impressed" by Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins and he could be a consideration with that #4 pick.
Last week, Ian Rapoport reported that Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden sent the team's scouts home prior to the draft because of trust issues. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, that decision might have been made because Mayock and Gruden have already made up their mind to go with a QB at #4.
"Potentially, part of the reason the Raiders decided to handle the scouts the way that they handled them over the course of the weekend was because maybe they had made a decision and they are going to go with a quarterback at number four," Breer said Wednesday (H/T Rotoworld)."
Of course, these leaked rumors could be a ploy by the Raiders to bait a QB-needy team, such as the Washington Redskins, into trading up for the pick.
We'll find out shortly after 8:00pm ET tonight, as the first-round of the NFL Draft gets underway on the NFL Network, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
