The Cleveland Browns will surely select a quarterback with the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night but it's still a mystery which QB will be the first off the board.
Some mock drafts have the Browns taking Sam Darnold out of USC, while others think Wyoming's Josh Allen will be the pick. Of course, there's also the chance that it's neither of the two. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Oklahoma Sooners star QB Baker Mayfield has "definitely" been a part of the Browns' considerations with the first overall pick and he cannot be ruled out as a possibility for #1.
Per ESPN,
"Baker Mayfield "definitely" has been a part of the Cleveland Browns' considerations with the No. 1 draft pick, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter."
"The source said the Browns may have already decided whom they would select at No. 1. But before that final decision, whenever it was made, Mayfield was in that conversation."
"The inclusion of Mayfield in the Browns' conversation adds murkiness to the top of the draft, where Cleveland owns picks Nos. 1 and 4."
Mayfield, reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is expected to be one of the top picks in the draft and even if the Browns pass on him at #1 there's a strong chance he won't be on the board for long. There is growing speculation that the New York Jets will select Mayfield with their pick at #3 if he's still available.
We'll find out soon enough as the 2018 NFL Draft is scheduled to kick off this Thursday, April 26. First round coverage will begin at 8:00pm ET, and can be seen on the NFL Network, Fox, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes.
