Blood Orange (A.K.A. Dev Hynes) dropped off his stellar tape Negro Swan back in August of 2018 that (for some) probably brings back sweet memories of the summer's end. Of the amazing 16-tracks, "Hope" is easily a top contender with features by Diddy and Tei Shi, that hears Diddy share a short monologue detailing how he's scared to be loved.
Having already dropped off videos for "Saint" and "Chewing Gum," Dev has now returned to share his self-directed piece for "Hope." The visuals are very well done with lots of elements that compliment Dev's aesthetic. we get to see studio sessions with both Diddy and Tei Shi recording their vocals with a couple appearances by Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky.
"While working on that song, I started doing fake Puff vocals, because I thought it sounded like that to me. And then I was like, “It’d be kind of cool if it actually was Puff.” So I sent him a text, like, “I did this track, do you want to do this vocal part?” And he replied, “Send it.” He sent back his vocals, like, 20 hours later. And he also sent an outro that he did on his own—I guess he just heard the rough version of it and felt like going in," Dev explained of the song. "It was actually way longer. I had to edit it, it was wild. I don’t know if I caught him on a good day with texting or whatever, but yeah, I feel pretty blessed for that one.
