Saturday Night Live actor and comedian Pete Davidson has come under fire for a myriad of statements in the past.
Back in 2017, Davidson joked about the tragic bombing that occurred at Ariana's Manchester concert laughingly telling an interviewer, “ Even Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert." Earlier this year, during an SNL segment, Davidson sparked outrage with a comment about tampering with Grande's birth control while they were still romantically involved. "Last night I switched her birth control with Tic-Tacs...I believe in us and all, but I just want to make sure that she can't go anywhere," he said.
This weekend, Davidson was once again faced with immense backlash after joking about GOP congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw's appearance. Crenshaw, a war veteran, wears protective covering over an eye he lost to a war-related injury. In SNL's "Weekend Update", Davidson joked that Crenshaw resembled a hit man from an adult film. "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever," he added. "Whatever."
Several members of the public immediately demanded that Davidson apologize. Crenshaw however, evidently feels differently. In speaking to TMZ, Crenshaw shared, "I want us to get away from this culture where we demand apologies every time someone misspeaks. We don't need to be outwardly outraged, I don't need you to demand an apology from them. [SNL] can do whatever they want." He went on to ask SNL and Davidson to be more considerate in the future. "But I would like [Pete Davidson] and SNL to recognize something which is that veterans across the county probably don't feel as though their wounds that they received in battle should be the subject of a bad punchline, for a bad joke.
