Rest in peace to the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. He was an amazing actor, but his performance as The Kingpin in the dead-on-arrival Daredevil film in 2003 was less than stellar. Duncan isn't the only man to play the massive Marvel villain. There have been other men to play the voice and likeness of The Kingpin, but none have done it as well as Vincent D'Onofrio. D'Onofrio took on the role in the first season of Netflix's Daredevil, and delivered the MCU one of their best villains ever.
After getting locked up in the first season of Daredevil, Kingpin spent most of the second season pulling strings from behind bars. He's set to return as the main villain for the third season, which premieres later this month. In fact, both Kingpin and Bullseye will face off against the Man Without Fear. Fans of the series and the comics have been wondering if Kingpin would ever make it onto the big screen though. The villain was originally created as a Spider-Man foe, and crossed over into Daredevil's path several years later.
"DAMN. Seeing the new Daredevil trailer just makes me endlessly, endlessly sad we will likely never see @vincentdonofrio as the Kingpin in a Spider-Man movie," tweeted one Marvel fan. "What absolutely PERFECT casting." D'Onofrio retweeted the praise with the response, "Who says?" He followed that up with a meme of Peter Parker's boss, J.J. Jameson, slamming his table and asking for D'Onofrio. With the fans behind him, and a history with Spider-Man, I can't see why Marvel wouldn't want to place D'Onofrio in an MCU film down the road.
