Officials within the Philadelphia Eagles' organization have made it clear they expect Nick Foles to be the team's signal caller on day one. It's been reported that 2nd year standout Carson Wentz will only be ready by Week 3 at the earliest. Foles' recovery thus gives Wentz more time to recover ahead of his reintegration on the field.
The Eagles have not posted an official decree on the matter, since Coach Pederson prefers to make those announcements "90 minutes before kickoff." Those with a bird's eye view see things playing out cautiously for Wentz even though reports indicate his mobility is right on track, and his throwing velocity is actually greater than it was to begin the year last season.
In practice of late, Wentz has been splitting reps with Foles 50/50. Nick Foles suffered his own knock during preseason play, which resulted in him experiencing upper-body soreness for a couple of weeks. Wentz injury as you may recall, was a little more time-sensitive. ACL injuries typically take 9-12 months to heal with proper treatment. "It should be a cautious approach," said Dr. James Bradley, operated on Wentz's knee. "What's a few (missed) games over 12 to 15 years?"
That may be so Dr. Bradley, but Philly fans have just gotten into the habit of winning, and the NFC sure looks stacked.
