Kevin Smith, the actor/comedian/director most known for Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob, has taken to Twitter to publicly reveal that he endured a near-fatal heart attack yesterday. At the time, Smith was in Glendale, Ca. filming his forthcoming stand-up special Kevin Smith Live! at the Alex Theatre, which is slated to premiere sometime in the near future. The special required two tapings on two separate days; however, Smith began to feel ill shortly after the first taping wrapped up.
The Dogma director ultimately cancelled his second performance, and admitted himself into urgent care at a nearby hospital. It was this decision that ultimately saved Smith's life, as a doctor discovered some potentially-fatal artery blockages in his heart.
Smith posted a selfie in his hospital garb with some medical tubing encircling his head and chest post-operation. He appears particularly vital in the photo, and will hopefully make a speedy recovery. In the tweet, the comedian reveals some details about his exact condition, noting how "The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”)."
The survivor also admits how "if I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!" Smith followed this tweet with a longer, more sentimental Facebook exposition that details the precise moment he knew he needed to seek immediate medical attention. Smith waxes optimistic about his career trajectory and life experiences thus far, and reveals that if the end were to come, he would be content with all that he's accomplished in his 47 years of life.
