"MotorSport" is arguably one of the biggest posse cuts of the year. You have one of the biggest rap groups with one of the biggest artists in the world and on top of that, one of the most talked about up-and-comers. The song came around a time when everybody speculated that Nicki Minaj and Cardi B were speculated to have beef which has yet to be confirmed (or denied). However, Cardi B recently let everybody know how the song came about.
In an interview with Capital XTRA in the UK, Cardi was asked about how "MotorSport" came about and her relationship with Nicki Minaj. She seemed reluctant to elaborate on her conversation with Nicki Minaj. She was vague, saying that they spoke about "things" and didn't even really confirm whether they were good or not. However, she went on to speak about how "MotorSport" came about. She said that she didn't hear Nicki's verse until the song dropped.
"When I heard the track, her verse wasn't finished. Or it's not the verse that was on right now," she said, "Quavo told me to get on the song. And I just felt like it's a perfect opportunity to on a track that's big like them. Because those are two big people and I just started in the game. And I just know if I get on this record, it's going to be crazy. Like who doesn't want it?"
The song definitely worked in Cardi B's favor. At this point, she's yet to actually release another solo record but has delivered a series of solid guest features that have kept her name bubbling. She did announce that she'd be dropping a new single in early December but it's feeling like it'll be difficult to top "Bodak Yellow" especially since she confirmed it shortly after the breakthrough single hit triple platinum.
Aside from new music, the rapper has received two Grammy nominations for "Bodak Yellow." She'll be competing with some major names for "Best Rap Song" as well as "Best Rap Performance." Cardi's had a major year and with the amount of work she's put in, she's reaping the fruits of her labor.
