Last night, Migos previewed their brand new single "Motor Sport," which features Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. This morning, the song has surfaced in full, and it's most definitely a continuation of the foundational Culture sound. And why wouldn't it be, seeing as Culture was a massive success for the Migos, going platinum and spawning one of the year's biggest hits in "Bad And Boujee." Now, the group have once again reunited with producer Murda Beatz for the first single off Culture 2, and it seems as if the album promotion campaign is in full effect. And while the Migos are one of hip-hop's biggest groups, there's another narrative surrounding their latest single - the team-up of Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
After Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" began popping off everywhere, rumors circled that her increasing success had perturbed the self-proclaimed queen, Nicki Minaj. Unfortunately, when it comes to female rappers, there seems to be an unspoken understanding that "there can only be one," and while it's ridiculous, the concept has been around since the days of Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. Yet now, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have teamed up for what promises to be one of 2017's biggest year-end singles, and both of them turn in solid efforts. It's hard to say which of the ladies takes the edge, but Cardi's x-rated verse is certainly memorable for some of the more lewd lines.
Overall, "Motor Sport" is a solid look at what Culture 2 has in store, and while it's not exactly breaking any new barriers, a banger of this nature is harmless addition to Migos' expanding catalog. Does this track have what it takes to prove a commercial mainstay in the way "Bad And Boujee" or "Bodak Yellow" did? It seems unlikely, but that doesn't mean it won't bump in the whip.
Quotable Lyrics
4-88 hit the gears, suicide doors Britney Spears
I'm boujee, so bitch don't get near
Criss Angel make dough disappear
Hit the gas and got flames out the rear
