Everyone is talking about the "2018 XXL Freshman List". Every year, people agree to disagree on the publication's pick. The Breakfast Club has got us covered. Their interview with Vanessa Statten is jokes but also informative. For one, the editor legit laughs when Trippie Redd's recent arrest was mentioned. She kinda catches herself after that, but still. The crew then addressed the fact that she is not the only one who formulates the list. And they clarify that she is not a "white lady." Then comes Tekashi 6ix 9ine: "There are a lot of things negative about him...what's gonna happen with him a year from now?" She explains the business-related consideration involved in giving artists an editorial co-sign. Other artists that are mentioned include Tee Grizzley, Casanova, Gunna, Youngboy.
They also clarify the reason why there are only nine freshmen on the cover. Statten says Lil Skies ultimately turned down the cover. He had accepted their preemptive invite, which included participating in a video. At the last minute, the homie didn't show up to the cover shoot even though he officially got the most votes out of the whole group.
Now, about Rich The Kid turning down the cover: homie wasn't even nominated. He just happened to be around and since he has a good relationship with XXL they considered him for a minute. Also, he wanted to sit on a throne with the other freshmen standing around him. When Statten told him he couldn't pose that way, he left the building. There's so much juice in this video. Just watch it.
Some have voiced their belief that the selection is rigged. Bhad Bhabie is one of those people. 2 Chainz didn't go as far as questioning the legitimacy of the selection, but he thought a few rappers were snubbed. Lil Xan mumbled a little something too. What's your take?
