After a period rooted in controversy and eye-catching headlines, upstart Tekashi 6IX9INE has at last delivered on his debut mixtape Day69. From the outset, as seen the sound that we’ve witnessed on previously released singles like "KOODA," "GUMMO," and "KEKE," 6IX9INE’s energy is unparalleled. The project’s opener, “BILLY” kicks off with actor Michael K. Williams reciting several aggressive and equally inspiring lines. “Get up in they face! Talk your shit,” Williams declares. And boy, does 6IX9INE ever.
You’ll find quickly that the newcomer’s signature delivery doesn’t curb itself at all on this effort, even when juxtaposed with auto-tune laced vocals from Tory Lanez and Fetty Wap. At first, such contrasts may prove shocking, but a listen or two is likely the remedy for anyone looking to develop an appreciation for 6IX9INE’s craft.
