Macklemore & Ryan Lewis came into the scene scorching hot. The duo made a name for themselves through making radio-friendly hip hop that was able to transcend demographics. Once "Thrift Store" took over the world, both of them were inescapable entities in the music industry. After announcing that they'd be on a hiatus, Macklemore quickly followed it up by announcing a solo album. He's already began the project's roll out by dropping two singles. Today, he links up with Kesha to drop "Good Old Days" as the project's third single.
On "Good Old Days", Macklemore and Kesha reminisce about the days before fame. Macklemore opens up his verse detailing the times when he was an underground artist, touring in a van and trying to make his dreams come into fruition. The song essentially talks about how the challenges many face end up becoming fond memories later on. Kesha handles the hook with her powerful vocals over a soft and simple piano progression. The song was produced by Budo, who Macklemore previously collaborated with. It looks like Budo is going to play a huge role in Macklemore's upcoming project. He's already had a hand in producing the other two singles from the project.
Macklemore has been releasing some pretty solid singles for his upcoming project. Prior to this one, he released the Lil Yachty assisted "Marmalade" and before that, he introduced the project with "Glorious" featuring Skylar Grey. Aside from the three features, he's also previewed another joint off of Gemini with Offset. "Good Old Days" is likely the last single we'll receive before he drops the album this Friday. In a few weeks, Macklemore will be hitting the road to promote his album. The tour will start in Portland on October 6th before ending in Boston on November 14th.
Quotable Lyrics
Wish I would've gotten out of my shell
Wish I would've put the bottle back on the shelf
Wish I wasn't worried about what other people thought
And felt comfortable with myself.
