Lupe Fiasco pays respect to a fellow lyricist.

It goes without saying that Royce Da 5'9" is one of hip-hop's unsung heroes. The Detroit legend is about to officially drop off PRhyme 2 with DJ Premier, with The Book Of Ryan set to follow. Lupe Fiasco is no doubt on board with the Layers emcee's prolific output; in anticipation of Royce's upcoming drop, Lupe came through with another one of his Twitter exclusives. Clocking in at under two minutes, Lupe's "Portrait Of Royce" finds the rapper on his MF Doom tip, delivering dazzling abstract lyricism over a lo-fi, sample-based beat. "Royce, sounds like Detroit's voice," raps Lupe, kicking off the track on an honorable note.

It's interesting to see Lupe moving in this direction. Of late, the Chicago Kung-Fu aficionado has taken to releasing loosies through Twitter. Lyrically, Lupe remains as dexterous as ever, forcing listeners to shut up and take notice; the man is painting vivid pictures on a canvas like Bob Ross.

Quotable Lyrics

Never tires, hard to extinguish like a firestorm fireball
What's a search engine to a Chinese firewall?
Mechanics on the block, rhyme detective
Prime directives, even adversaries gon' cop
