At the beginning of the year, Kevin Gates was released from jail after serving nine months of a weapons charge in a correctional facility in Illinois. Since he was released, we have not necessarily heard much from the rapper, which has been surprising given his four months of freedom. Although he revealed in March that he's hard at work in the studio, recording upwards of 300 songs before releasing new music, the Baton Rouge rapper has remained notably silent on social media. Speaking on his situation, Dreka Gates, Kevin's wife, explained why we haven't heard from him since his release and it doesn't seem entirely promising.
Dreka took over her husband's Instagram account today to give an update on the rapper's current situation, noting that he has intense travel restrictions put in place. Dreka begins by apologizing on Kevin's behalf for missing his upcoming shows for the next two weekends at the JMBLYA and Rolling Loud festivals. She then gets down to business, saying, "The Illinois Department of Corrections has prevented Kevin from leaving the state of Illinois. He isn't even allowed to come home to California where we live and since he was released in January, he has not been able to come home not one time." The upcoming shows were his first scheduled appearances since being released from jail and Dreka is promising that Kevin will make it up to his fans once everything is sorted out.
She states concern for her husband's legal troubles and, while things do not seem entirely promising, they are both trying their hardest to get the travel restrictions lifted.
