This has been one of the biggest stories of the year thus far. A few weeks ago, the entertainment world was struck with major news after Empire star, Jussie Smollett, was allegedly the victim of a hate crime, being targeted because of his race and sexual orientation. This came shortly after a letter was sent to the television personality, threatening his life. After a thorough police investigation, it is now being reported that Jussie may have staged his attack and earlier this morning, he was taken into police custody after an arrest for filing a false police report. Many of us have been following this story closely and with updates coming every minute, we can now officially share the mugshot that was taken of the actor today.
Smollett claimed that he was attacked by two men, who have since been identified as a pair of Nigerian brothers that previously worked with Jussie on Empire. They allegedly poured bleach over him and tied a noose around his neck before yelling "This is MAGA country." Police are currently holding a briefing on the incident, where Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has said that Jussie "took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career." This was communicated shortly after his mugshot was made public.
