In just a few short days, the victim has officially turned into the suspect. When Jussie Smollett was attacked in the streets of Chicago, fans were empathetic toward the Empire actor. The beatdown was reported to have been a homophobic and racist assault. In the past week, crucial details were revealed about the case that insinuated the purported attack was actually staged. Finally, Smollett has been arrested and taken into police custody according to CNN.
The actor was taken into custody at around 5:00 AM today ahead of a 1:00 PM bail hearing. Yesterday, it was reported that he was facing a felony charge for filing a false police report. Jussie was hesitant to even file a report at first, according to the police, and even admitted as much in his "tell-all" interview with ABC News.
In that same interview, Jussie revealed the details of his alleged attack, claiming that two men with "MAGA" hats hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him, before proceeding to punch him in the face, which led to a fight between all three. He claimed the two men left him with a noose around his neck and threw bleach on him. The police investigation led them to detain two Nigerian brothers, Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, as suspects in the alleged hate crime-- but the story started to unravel when the Osundairo brothers told the police that they were paid to "attack" Jussie, and even practiced the routine prior to the fateful Chicago night. What's more, video footage has since surfaced showing the two brothers purchasing ski masks, red hats, sunglasses and gloves.
Jussie Smollett's attorney had previously maintained his innocence. How do you think he will plea in court?
