Joell Ortiz and Apollo Brown quietly dropped off some fire in the shape of Mona Lisa, and now, the pair has come through to expand the scope of their vision. "Cocaine Fingertips" has officially received the visual treatment, as Ortiz and Brown come through with an examination of the drug trade. Bookending the clip with the "escape of Pablo Escobar," Joell watches the news cycle from afar, intercut between traditional "bar-spitting" shots. Meanwhile, cinematic interludes permeate from time to time; the lyricist is given ample room to flex his acting chops, channeling his inner Eddie Murphy to take on a variety of different roles.
While the attempt at a greater narrative is admirable, you don't exactly want Joell's insane bars to be interrupted so frequently. As such, some of the interludes can feel a little jarring. Either way, "Cocaine Fingertips" is a reminder that Apollo and Joell struck gold, and Mona Lisa deserves to be revisited.
