Saturday Night Live has been a platform for premieres, exciting performances and unforeseen announcements for the last few years. Every weekend, musical guests give it their all and use the platform to boost their own brand presence. Just a few weeks after Cardi B used the late-night show to formally announce her pregnancy, Childish Gambino made use of SNL to debut two brand new singles. Along with "Saturday," Donald Glover released "This Is America" with an intensely packed list of collaborators that you have likely noticed to this point.
The politically-charged single is Gambino's first single since dropping Awaken, My Love in 2016 with the beloved "Redbone." While background vocals from Young Thug are pretty clear during the first listen of the track, "This Is America" features quite the list of talent supporting Gambino in his resurgence. 21 Savage can be heard throughout, helping Childish out on ad-lib duty while Quavo, BlocBoy JB, and Slim Jxmmi have all been credited for the track.
The single begins as one that is incredibly upbeat before the first gunshot sounds and things get real from there on. Accompanied by an official music video, the song is a must-listen for fans of the artist. Let us know what you think of Gambino's "This Is America" in the comments below.
Quotable Lyrics:
Yeah, this is America (woo, ayy)
Guns in my area (word, my area)
I got the strap (ayy, ayy)
I gotta carry 'em
Yeah, yeah, I'ma go into this (ugh)
Yeah, yeah, this is guerilla (woo)
Yeah, yeah, I'ma go get the bag
Yeah, yeah, or I'ma get the pad
