The nation continues to be fascinated by Childish Gambino's return to the game, the captivating "This Is America." While bolstered by some excellent visuals from director Hiro Murai, the song itself stands on its own, driven by a hard-hitting beat from Childish Gambino & Ludwig Göransson. The clip has already amassed 50 million views on YouTube, a testament to the world's admiration for Glover's creativity. While the track has clearly received a warm reception, many have praised the impressive use of iconic ad-libs, from Young Thug, to Quavo, to 21 Savage. Even newcomer Blocboy JB gets thrown into the mix. Evidently, it would appear that engineer extraordinaire Alex Tumay is the man responsible for that decision.
The man responsible for engineering Young Thug and more took to Instagram to boast his involvement in the song, sharing a screencap of a post from Genius. As the post in question addresses the myriad ad-libs, Tumay proudly captions "😊 my idea 😊." Clearly, the work of an innovative mind. It's cool to see Tumay continue to grow as a presence in the game; people tend to sleep on the engineers, but they're pretty much the unsung heroes. Props to Alex for getting some recognition for his contributions.
