It was only a matter of time. Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" emerged as the summer's breakout song, popping up everywhere from Migos concerts to elementary school geography classrooms. In fact, it seems as if every other day Cardi is popping up at some artist's concert and in order to perform the banger. You've probably heard it at least twenty times yourself, whether willingly or otherwise, and it's hard no to be excited for Cardi. Whatever you might think about her personality, you can't deny that she's been grinding for a minute, and can back it up by actually delivering some dope bars.
If you think about it, "Bodak Yellows" success was inevitable. It has a hot beat, a massive hook, great lyricism and flow, and a charismatic vocal presence. The video is cinematic and highlights two of Cardi's most valuable assets; her beauty and her theatrical, entertaining performance style. And with "Bodak's" video about to crack one hundred million views, is it really a surprise that the single has officially gone gold?
It's nice to see Cardi's efforts rewarded, and she can officially take home her first plaque. It seems like a platinum upgrade is inevitable, but in the mean time, congrats to Cardi B for the important sales milestone. While she has yet to announce any upcoming albums in any official capacity, she has teased on Twitter that the "Bodak Yellow" followup will be absolutely crazy.
