It's been undeniably a big year for Kendrick Lamar. Today, ESPN announced that Kung Fu Kenny will be performing live for the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship Halftime Performance.
Kendrick Lamar will be touching the stage for the inaugural halftime performance during the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018. The championship will happen on January 8th, 2018 at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. The performance will be free and will occur just outside of the Mercedez-Benz Stadium. The performance will be part of ESPN's telecast of the event. Lamar will deliver a performance which includes a medley of hits off DAMN.
In a press release, Kendrick Lamar spoke on the opportunity to perform as the inaugural halftime performance at the College Football Playoff National Championship.
"Having the opportunity to perform at halftime of what will surely be the best game of the year between two deserving universities is truly an honor," he said.
Ed Erhardt, president, ESPN global sales & marketing elaborated on why they chose Kendrick Lamar as the inaugural halftime performer for the playoff event.
"In each year of the College Football Playoff, we’ve been able to build upon the experience of the last," he said, "This year is a true first for college football – and it makes sense that the hottest performer of the moment, Kendrick Lamar, would usher in this new era for the national championship game."
