The latest "Star Wars" dominated this weekend's box office.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi had a stellar box-office performance this weekend after hitting theatres on Friday, December 15th. Deadline reports that the highly acclaimed film drew in $220 million dollars between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Last Jedi now falls into fourth place for best ever first-weekend earnings after Jurassic World with $69.6M, The Avengers with $69.55M, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $68.3M.

Analysts predict the film will rake in an overall $750 million statewide due to the timing of the release that sees 68% of colleges and 17% of K-12 schools on Winter break.

“There’s something in Star Wars in how it speaks universally. There’s a rabid nature to the fan base, especially when they see a Star Wars film that’s great," Dave Hollis, Disney's president of theatrical distribution says in relation to the surge in ticket sales where he believes its due to word-of-mouth by ardent Star Wars fans.

Did you guys watch the film this weekend? If not, are you planning on it?
