American luger Emily Sweeney was involved in a terrifying crash during her fourth run at the luge today, but was able to walk away virtually unscathed.
According to Yahoo Sports, Sweeney, who is competing in her first Olympic Games, lost control of her sled as she entered the ninth curve, which is the roughest in the entire course.
Despite remaining down on the ice for several minutes after the crash she was able to walk off the track under her own power. She suffered no broken bones but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

According to the NBC, Sweeney told said, “I’m very sore, and pretty stiff. I’m going to get an X-ray on my back after this, but I wanted to have the last word. So thanks for all the support, you guys. It’s a bummer, for sure, and I know that I’m better than that. But here we are — it happens.”
Germany's Natalie Geisenberger took home the gold medal once the competition resume, while American Erin Hamlin finished sixth.
