The fast food giant is showing its solidarity with women.

Today is International Women's Day, which is a celebration of the vast achievements of our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, aunts, friends, etc. However, women still face systemic oppression that is both cultural and institutional, and have been fighting these misfortunes for decades in order to secure an equal playing-field with their male counterparts. While there is still some work that needs to done, and some battles that have yet to be fought, society cannot silence the plight of women in the modern age.

McDonald's, one of the most high-profile corporations across the globe, stands beside women during today's proceedings. The company has flipped their iconic golden arches to resemble a W, as opposed to an M, changing their logo on all social media accounts to reflect their solidarity with women.

Some restaurants have gone the extra-mile to commemorate the day's festivities, as the Lynwood location has physically altered their outdoor sign, confusing some patrons in the process. Similarly, over 100 restaurants will also be offering special packaging, crew shirts, bag stuffers and hats emblazoned with the temporary logo.

A McDonald's global chief diversity officer Wendy Lewis has gone on to note how "in celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants. From restaurant crew and management to our C-suite of senior leadership, women play invaluable roles at all levels, and together with our independent franchise owners, we're committed to their success."
