It's been a cold week on the East Coast but, despite that, there was nothing stopping fans from turning up in droves with the hopes of seeing Lil Uzi Vert perform last night (December 13th) at The Good Room in New York City. The occasion: a celebration of sorts for Soundcloud, to honor "What's New, Now & Next In Music." The Philly rapper's full-length effort, Luv Is Rage 2, was named the platform's album of the year and, according to a report from Billboard, Uzi did his best to live up to that title.
His red hair standing out against his black leather jacket, Lil Uzi Vert galvanized those in attendance by giving them energetic renditions of his best-known songs, including "The Way Life Goes" and "XO Tour Llif3." He also performed "wokeuplikethis," the Pi'erre Bourne-produced banger that elicited more than a few of those iconic shoulder rolls from the rapper. After bumping through "Seven Million" and "Do What I Want," he ended his set by jumping into the VIP booth and throwing it back to one of the songs that made him on the streaming platform. "Since this is SoundCloud, I guess we have to do '7AM,'" he exclaimed, ending off his stage time with an exclamation mark.
Another Soundcloud luminary, Lil Wop, opened the show and set the tone for the evening in a big way. Running through a bunch of cuts from Wopavelli 3, Wop also gave audiences a taste of what's to come from him musically, performing several unreleased joints off his upcoming album. His 30-minute set ended with his signature "ayy" ad libs, which delighted the crowd before Uzi took to the stage.
