Sunday, the Chicago bears beat Carolina’s Panthers by a blowout score of 17-3. With Cam Newton on the field for the Panthers and rookie Mitch Trubisky serving as quarterback from the Bears, the opposite was the expected outcome of this matchup.
It was rookie safety Eddie Jackson who would score the Bears first touchdown in the first quarter after a 75-yard fumble return, and he’d follow it up with a 76-yard interception on the second half to round out the Bears offense of the day, and making himself the first player in the league to have two defensive touchdowns of 75 yards or more in the same game.
This performance paired with crucial mistakes from the Panthers would eventually come together to bring us to the final score as Cam Newton threw for two interceptions, and got sacked by Chicago five separate times. While he did complete 21 of his 34 passes, going for 211 yards and running for 50, Carolina ultimately fell short.
"Disappointed," Newton noted in a post-game interview. "There's no excuse to not come in and find a way to win this football game. We squandered that opportunity." This match now marks the Bears’ (3-4) second consecutive win and the Panthers’ (4-3) second consecutive loss.
