The latter half of 2017 was reserved for the meteoric rise of Lil Pump, whose song "Gucci Gang" was recently certified platinum. An interactive map, published by The Pudding, used statistics calculating the number 1 song on YouTube in each area of the world and it may come as no surprise that Pump dominated the end of the year in much of the United States. Also topping the charts in San Antonio, Chile, the track was undeniably successful in Pump's native Florida as well as most other states.
Also making appearances on the interactive map are Post Malone's "Rockstar" with 21 Savage, Ed Sheeran's new single, Camila Cabello and a shocking inclusion of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" in Washington. Closing out 2017, the East Coast was particularly feeling Tekashi 6ix9ine's "Gummo" with New York City, Boston, and Philly letting it hit on YouTube.
While "Gucci Gang" and "Gummo" may be nearing the end of their run at the top of the YouTube rankings, the two are certified bangers. Jetski and Tekashi don't seem to be slowing down either with 6ix9ine preparing a drop later this month and Pump planning the Harvard Dropout tape. The list is somewhat predictable for the United States but appearances by Pump, Tekashi and Post Malone begin to prove that, more and more, rappers are the new rock stars.
