Villanova's Donte DiVincenzo had the best performance of his career in last night's national championship game, scoring 31 points off the bench as the Wildcats cruised to a 79-62 victory over the Michigan Wolverines. DiVincenzo was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, but before he could even cut down the nets people started digging up some of his questionable tweets from years ago.
Shortly after the conclusion of last night's championship game, tweets dating back to 2011, when DiVincenzo was just 14 years old, began to surface including a post from August 2011, which references a lyric from Meek Mill's "Derrick Rose." The tweet reads, “Ballin on these n*ggas like I’m derrick rose!” Reporters asked DiVincenzo about the twitter account in question and he replied (H/T USA Today), “It’s my account, yes. But I never remember doing that.”
Other tweets that were dug up include one from 2011 that reads, "To my dad I'm a pussy now? Cuz I don't want to play fucking soccer." Safe to say he made the right move pursuing basketball.
DiVincenzo said he has not been active on Twitter since 2016, and the last tweet posted on his public account was June 3, 2016. His account has since been deactivated as a result of his old tweets resurfacing.
Villanova men’s basketball tweeted a statement after the game saying that the tweets were not DiVincenzo’s. “Unfortunately a Twitter account belonging to Donte DiVincenzo was hacked tonight,” the statement read. “None of the statements attributed to Donte are his – he has not used the account for months. The account has been deactivated. Please disregard any of these false tweets.”
However, that tweet was deleted shortly after it was posted, probably because someone realized that DiVincenzo's tweets in question were from several years ago.
