J. Cole returned with K.O.D. last night, and fans are not disappointed. Once again a feature-less album, aside from Cole's alter ego, kiLL edward, the album is an exciting release, with 12 succinct tracks, well-placed and well-chosen skits, and a beat selection that still feels like Cole, in the sense that there's definitely a soulful touch, but they also feel modern, some more sleek and upbeat. It's hard to choose which song to highlight off the album, but after the album's outro "1985," and the music video release for "ATM," we're going with the title track "K.O.D."
The song is minimalistic with a metallic bounce that Cole mimics in his flow, although he switches between a few different flows through out, from the fast-paced and tongue-twisting bars: "Haven't you heard? I'm as cold as the tip / Tip of the iceberg that tipped the Titanic / No tip-toein' around it, my shit is gigantic / As big as the fuckin' Atlantic, I'm lit, bitch" to the slowed down second verse, where the rapper echoes the voice of someone who is in the streets and on drugs, generally living recklessly.
If we highlight one more song off the album, which one should it be??? Let us know in the comments.
Quotable Lyrics
Platinum wrist ridin' in back like Miss Daisy
Platinum disc and I own masters, bitch, pay me
Y'all n*ggas trappin' so lack-sical-daisy
My n*gga sell crack like it's back in the '80s
Know a young n*ga, he actin' so crazy
He serve a few packs and he jack a Mercedes
He shoot at the police, he clap at old ladies
He don't give a fuck if them crackers gon' hang him
