Aaron Judge Breaks Rookie Homerun Record, Passing Mark McGwire

New York Yankees rookie right field Aaron Judge hit two homeruns in today's game against the Kansas City Royals, eclipsing Mark McGwire's rookie record of 49 that he set during the 1987 season with the Oakland Athletics.

Judge hit number 49, a two run homerun, off of Royals starter Jake Junis in the bottom of the third inning and went deep again in the seventh against reliever Trevor Cahill for the historic number 50.

The 6-foot-7, 282-pound slugger homered in his first big league at bat and proceeded to hit 30 homeruns before the All-Star break. He won the Home Run Derby and has gotten back on track in the last few weeks, certainly cementing himself as this year's AL Rookie of the Year.

With 50 home runs on the season, the 25-year old outfielder becomes just the fifth player in Yankees history to reach such a milestone, joining the ranks of Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris and Alex Rodriguez.

The Yanks won the game 11-3 and improved to 87-69 for the year, which is good enough for the top AL Wild Card spot by five games.
