Jennifer Lopez has announced she will donate $1 million towards hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. The singer made the announcement alongside New York Governor Andrew Cuomo at a press conference in New York City Sunday. Both Lopez and her boyfriend, former New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez will contribute to aid following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.
“Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are using all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean,” she said. “We are working day and night to identify the needs."

Last week, Lopez addressed her fans on Instagram, raising awareness of the devastation in Puerto Rico. She urged her followers to support and donate to relief, and revealed that she has not yet been able to make contact with her family that has been affected by the storms. “What’s on my mind is what’s going on in Puerto Rico," she said. "The devastation is beyond belief. Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there. What’s foremost in my mind and many others, is trying to figure out the best way to help. Our island of Puerto Rico has been hit by the two most devastating hurricanes we’ve ever seen Irma and Maria. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló. Together we can help rebuild our island and the Caribbean."
Lopez is not the only public figure doing her part for Puerto Rico. NBA star Carmelo Anthony recently announced that he will donate $50,000 towards helping those affected. "Puerto Rico is very near and dear to my heart," he said in a statement. "Through my foundation, I have been actively working to bring hope and improve the lives of under-served communities on the island. Hurricane Maria has caused catastrophic damage in Puerto Rico and the residents will need our help and support to rebuild. Please join me in raising the necessary funds to get the much-needed supplies and assistance to the people of Puerto Rico. Your generous donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated."
