At Midnight, fans of the culture received a slew of new offerings. There's a little something for every type of hip-hop fan in last night's new albums, whether you want some soulful r'n'b vibes a la Jhene Aiko (Trip), some hardened rhymes from G Herbo (Humble Beast), insightful gangsta raps from Kevin Gates (By Any Means 2), perhaps you're in the mood for corny rap stylings of Macklemore (Gemini), or maybe some real lyrical hip-hop courtesy of Rapsody (Laila's Wisdom), or else, you might be inclined towards the eccentricities that comprise of Young Thug and DJ Carnage's Young Martha EP. It should be noted, I didn't run through every -single- album that popped off at Midnight, for the full catalog of new releases head here.
That being said, Young Martha was one of the most anticipated releases of this new batch. The project had been long teased by Carnage, although the delay just meant that he was able to invest a lot of time and effort into perfecting the EP's sound. "With the Thug project I've had time to get all the stuff, get all the sessions, and go home and put hella time on Thug, make everything right," Carnage said, adding "but he's a musical genius." Does it qualify as Carnage's "best work yet," as the man claimed himself? "
The EP is made up of four songs, two of which we've heard-- "Homie" paved the way for the EP announcement, and "Liger" debuted ahead of the EP yesterday, to a VERY HOTTTTT User and Editor rating (!). We'll have to see if the EP follows suit -- does it live up to your expectations? If you're not on any particular paid streaming service, you can stream all four songs on Soundcloud below.
Who should Young Thug do a collaborative effort with next? The rapper hasn't been releasing a lot of music since his last solo effort, Beautiful Thugger Girls, however he has definitely been working, as evidenced by his Snapchatted studio sessions with Future, among others.
