Lil Uzi Vert has never been one to conform to normalcy, opting instead to move to the beat of his own drum. His off-kilter swagger was on full display during a recent trip to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where he performed one of his biggest Luv Is Rage 2 singles, the melodic "The Way Life Goes." The rapper made his late night debut dressed in a black leather jacket and Bad Religion t-shirt, and in a move that would make Marilyn Manson proud, brought out an open coffin. Uzi was joined by Jon Batiste and Stay Human, who provided some live instrumentation throughout the musical seance.
Unfortunately for all the purists out there, it seems like Uzi chose to lip-sync his way through the song; in fact, there doesn't appear to be any live vocalizing whatsoever. It's a bit disappointing, considering his tendency to play the "rockstar" card, as lip-syncing is generally frowned upon by the "rockstar" community. Still, it's nice to see Lil Uzi spreading his message on such a large platform, and perhaps his live experience isn't tailored for such an intimate setting. After all, there's nothing he can really stage-dive from.
Overall, the ambiance and vibe make this one worth watching, even if Lil Uzi is phoning in the vocals. Stay tuned for more news on Lil Uzi Vert, who will no doubt continue making an impression in 2018.
